Design and Construction: Doro 7030, a classic and practical telephone for the elderly

Part of what makes a cell phone easy and safe to use for seniors is its design, and that is why the Doro 7030 uses an old-time construction with a lid and physical keys instead of a touch screen, such as, the Doro 8050 .

Doro 7030 - Charging base

The first element to highlight of the phone when it is opened is its backlit physical keyboard , which includes the conventional numeric keys, a selection pad with a large central button, 4 buttons with direct access, and the keys for hanging up and answering a call.

Since its construction is plastic , the manufacturer has opted for a collapsible design to provide additional strength, which also makes it easy to lock and reload. For the latter, a convenient charging base has been included that eliminates the need to connect the small USB cable to the phone in case the person cannot.

The top cover (where the screen is located) has a small external chamber . For its part, the lower cover has a special button that activates an emergency function, as well as holes that allow the sound to come out of the loudspeaker.

All corners of the phone are rounded to make it comfortable to hold, plus it is slightly roughly textured to prevent it from slipping in your hand.

In terms of dimensions, when the phone is closed, it is 10.9 cm high, 5.7 cm wide and 2.0 cm thick. The weight is extremely low, with only 124 grams .

Doro 7030 display

The Doro 7030’s display is nothing special, but it does the job excellently. This is limited by the small space that the case has, so it is only 2.8 inches . In fact, as it is so small it does not require large resolutions, which is why it barely reaches QVGA (320 x 240px) .

Easy to visualize

However, the panel is backlit by LEDs , which makes it extremely sharp and clear, and allows the adjustment of colors and contrast so that each user can tailor their experience.

Basic hardware

The Doro 7030 is a cell phone that performs correctly in its performance, especially highlighting the special characteristics that make it ideal for the elderly.

At a technical level, it is a mobile with just 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. This will be used for the installation of the default applications, in addition to having amounts of memory reserved to be able to record up to 500 contacts and record 100 calls. If you need more space, especially to take pictures, you can put a Micro SD card up to 128GB .

With regard to its special functions, the Doro 7030 has a voice assistant called EVA , which will clearly indicate the steps to configure the phone for the first time and will offer a series of voice commands to quickly access functions such as calls, messages, among others.

It also has a speed dial system that allows you to register contacts to certain keys to call them with a single held touch.

Sound is clear no matter the environment, ideal for the hearing impaired, and even HAC- type headphones can be connected via a 3.5mm port.

As we mentioned previously, on the back of the mobile there is a kind of emergency button that activates the Response By Doro system . Stepping on it sends an alert to pre-registered contacts with the phone’s current GPS location , plus it starts a call in speakerphone mode so you can talk quickly.

Finally, the mobile has a 1,350mAh battery with fast charging capacity, which can support up to 6 hours of continuous calls.

Simple camera

The Doro 7030’s camera is not its strong point, but being a Smartphone with some modern communication applications, a modest 3MP sensor with flash has been included that will allow you to make video calls and, of course, take pictures. It only has a camera on the outside of the top cover.

Connectivity and Software

In addition to the Response By Doro app , the Doro 7030 has WhatsApp and Facebook by default . However, no additional applications can be installed.

Highlight Features

Surprisingly, the phone’s connectivity options are quite varied. It has Wi-Fi, compatibility with 4G mobile networks , Bluetooth 4.2, and even the option to share the internet.
