OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, flagships with 5G, 120Hz screen and Warp Charge 30T
OnePlus has finally revealed its long-awaited flagships during an online conference held this April 14, which we will summarize below. The undisputed star of the show was the OnePlus 8 Pro alongside its younger brother, the OnePlus 8, but the company also introduced the new version of OxygenOS and the Bullets Wireless Z wireless earphones.
Meet the OnePlus 8 and its big brother, the OnePlus 8 Pro: OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, flagships with 5G, 120Hz screen and Warp Charge 30T
In terms of design, the OnePlus 8 series does not change things much, if you were aware of the leaks, then there is nothing new for you. Both models follow the same aesthetic line, which is characterized by a slightly curved screen and a central pill-shaped camera arrangement (3 cameras on the standard model and 4 on the Pro model).
Also, the back cover features a 3D glass with a matte finish that is soft to the touch and resistant to fingerprints. Speaking of toughness, the standard OnePlus 8 is resistant only to splashes of water, while the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with IP68 certification , which means waterproof.
This year’s color presentations include green, ultramarine blue, onyx black and an option called Intestellar Glow, which is exclusive to the standard model and features gradient hues ranging from orange to purple.
Screens
Going into details, the standard model has a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with a FHD + resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate for a fluid sensation and a maximum brightness of 1,100 nits. The aspect ratio of the panel is 20: 9 and here a hole in the upper left corner for the selfie camera comes into play.
For its part, the Pro model comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED Fluid screen manufactured by Samsung with a 2K resolution (3,168 x 1,440), a refresh rate of 120Hz and a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits.
It is worth mentioning that both models support the HDR10 + standard , automatic brightness control at 4096 levels and have a reduced blue light emission (40% less). However, the Pro model is the only one to have the new MEMC chip, which is used to rescale video and games at a higher rate of frames per second.
Hardware and Features
Both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 865 flagship chip together with the X55 modem , which provides 5G connectivity to the terminals. This chip is accompanied by 8GB / 12GB of RAM in both models along with 128GB / 256GB of internal storage. However, the standard OnePlus 8 makes use of LPDDR4X RAM, while the OnePlus 8 Pro makes the jump to the new LPDDR5 standard.
Another substantial difference between the devices is the battery, since we have a base model with a capacity of 4,300mAh that offers fast charging of 30 watts and in turn a Pro model with a 4,510mAh battery , which improves the bet with fast wireless charging of the same power (Warp Charge 30T Wireless).
Both the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro run Android 10 along with the new version of OxygenOS, which includes new features such as dark mode 2.0, smooth battle 2.0 and dynamic wallpapers. In terms of connectivity, both smartphones are compatible with 5G, as well as 4G LTE Cat 18, WiFi 6 ax, Bluetooth 5.1 (supports aptX audio codec), GPS and NFC for electronic payments. Regarding the physical interfaces, we only find a USB Type-C 3.1 port.
In addition, the OnePlus 8 series improves the haptic vibration of its predecessors and includes dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound.
Cameras and photography
The photographic configuration between both models differs beyond the presence of an additional sensor in the OnePlus 8 Pro, which is why we list the composition of each below.
OnePlus 8
- 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor with f / 1.75 aperture (OIS + EIS)
- 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f / 2.4 and 116-degree field of view
- 2MP macro camera (1.75 microns) with f / 2.4 aperture (up to 3 cm)
- Double LED flash
OnePlus 8 Pro
- 48MP Sony IMX689 main sensor with f / 1.78 (OIS + EIS)
- 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f / 2.2 and 120-degree field of view
- 8MP telephoto lens with f / 2.4, 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom (OIS)
- 5MP color filter sensor with f / 2.4
- Laser AF and dual LED flash
Note: the front camera of both models is 16MP, but with f / 2.0 aperture in the case of the OnePlus 8 and f / 2.4 in the OnePlus 8 Pro.
As can be seen, both terminals exhibit an outstanding photographic configuration (especially the OnePlus 8 Pro), where functions such as HDR, video recording in 4K at 60fps, optical and electronic image stabilization and optical zoom stand out (only in the Pro).
