Zach Nelson of the YouTube channel  JerryRigEverything , has proceeded to conduct his usual extreme durability test with the most recent and innovative device from the house of Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip , and from the start we can tell you that he did not leave a good impression on him. popular YouTuber and his followers. 

The latter is due to a particular detail: the material of the screen; remember that Samsung promised an “ultra-thin layer of glass” to cover the terminal’s OLED panel, which is capable of folding next to the body. The company even boasted that it was “bending the laws of physics,” but apparently all they are bending is plastic and anti-deceptive advertising laws.

Zach started the test as usual, using his Mohs hardness picks to scratch the screen, and the scratches were not long in coming … only at level 2 did noticeable scratches begin to appear on the surface , and at level 3 the damage was done extremely remarkable. 

This is not something we would expect from a device with this price tag, since the vast majority of  flagships  with glass displays tend to hold up to level 6 and 7. However, we do know of a material that starts to show scratches so quickly in smartphone screens: plastic. 

To top it off, the  YouTuber  demonstrated how easy you can scratch your screen using just your fingernails . Additionally, when Zach applied pressure with the tines (instead of scratching) it was evident how the pixels died easily, leaving entire lines of dead pixels on the panel, which will get larger over time. 

This has made the YouTuber  question the material used by Samsung for the screen , leading him to theorize that it might be a plastic screen with glass polymers or something like that. Either way, the resistance is not on par with a glass panel, as demonstrated by applying the same test on the secondary screen that can be achieved on the back cover of the Galaxy Z Flip. 

As you can see, the scratches are only visible from level 6 and 7, just as they should be on a real glass screen. Likewise, the back cover of the Galaxy Z  Flip  also demonstrates this resistance to scratches. 

The litmus test of  JerryRigEverything  also did not sit well with the Galaxy Z Flip. Unlike other recent flagships, the terminal display did not recover from burns from the lighter, leaving visible marks where the flame once was and warping from high temperatures, as you would expect from plastic. 

The hinge survived the test 

The screen may have gone through worth the durability test  JerryRigEverything , but at the least the structural integrity of the Galaxy Z  Flip  resisted the brutal bending test , and when we say bending we refer  to v e r l or p l e g a r s e h to c i to e l l to d or or p u e s t or .      

After 3 attempts, the  YouTuber  accumulated enough damage to the hinge and metal on the sides to prevent the device from closing normally, but at least the screen was intact … well, almost intact, given that the scratches made previously they are permanent. Likewise, the glass on the back cover also broke due to pressure, but this is only cosmetic damage as the screen is still working. 

Lastly, Zach Nelson tested the Galaxy Z Flip’s resistance to   dust and fine particles by throwing dirt at the screen and then cleaning it with compressed air. Surprisingly, nothing was introduced inside the terminal , so Samsung has done a good job in this regard. 

In a different vein,  The Verge  asked Samsung if it planned to offer a screen replacement service for the Z  Flip  as it did for the Galaxy Fold. And the answer is yes, Z Flip buyers can get a one-time screen replacement for $ 119 , says Samsung. Furthermore, they can also get a specialized screen protector designed for the Z  Flip  for free.
