The brand dedicated to the design of smart smartphones from Cat has launched a new rugged mobile on the market. This has been dubbed the Cat S52 and, in the words of the company itself, “defies consumer expectations of what a rugged phone looks like”, this is because it combines military-grade strength with a conservative design that leans toward the slim and elegant side.

Going into details, the terminal has dimensions of 158.1 x 76.6 x 9.69 mm, so it falls within the average size of a smartphone, but without impressing by its thinness. This has a weight of 210 grams, so it is not exactly light, but it is not the heaviest if we compare it with other robust mobiles.

It presents a combination of metal, plastic and rubber elements for its construction, which is IP68 certified against water and dust. In this sense, the terminal can withstand a submergence underwater at 1.5m for 35 minutes. As if that were not enough, it is military certified MIl Spec 810G , which means that it can be subjected to temperatures between -30 degrees to 65 degrees ° C for 24 hours.

On top of that, it has been tested with drops to 1.5 meters on steel, repeated 30 times, which shows its high degree of resistance.

Its appearance may be very conservative, to the point of looking somewhat outdated when we think about the mobiles of the moment, but it certainly makes up for it with extreme resistance that not just any mobile has.

On the front it exhibits a 5.65-inch screen with HD + resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels , which is protected by a layer of sixth-generation Corning Gorilla Glass, thus guaranteeing exceptional resistance against scratches and drops.

Again, the Cat S52 falls short in resolution, but it is a sacrifice in the name of the durability (and autonomy) of the terminal. In addition, the screen can be manipulated even with gloves on.

Hardware and Features

Beneath its rugged exterior beats a 2.3Ghz octa-core Mediatek Helio P35 processor, which is backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM (expandable via MicroSD). It is also powered by a 3,100mAh battery compatible with fast charging , which can offer up to 29 hours of call time on 3G.

At the software level, it has Android 9 Pie as the default operating system and has a guaranteed update to Android 10 , including security patches every 90 days.

In the connectivity department it consists of compatibility with 4G LTE Cat 6, dual band WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC for electronic payments, USB Type C port (waterproof) and 3.5mm audio jack.

Cameras

The Cat S52 fills the photographic section with a 12MP Sony dual-pixel sensor camera . It has an aperture f / 1.8, as well as a pixel size of 1.4 microns and electronic image stabilization. For its part, the front camera has an 8MP sensor.
