For a few days we have been able to test the new  Samsung Galaxy M20 , a mid-range smartphone that slightly exceeds the 200 euro range and that is postulated as a good option for those looking for a  balanced device , signed by a  renowned manufacturer and with a  contained price .

The Samsung Galaxy M20 comes quite complete. The box is a fairly modest cardboard box (and that breaks easily), but inside we find the smartphone itself  ,  manuals ,  headphone jack ,  USB cable ,  wall adapter  and  the SIM spike .

Be careful because the normal thing is to think that the skewer does not come. It’s hidden under the headphones, so don’t forget to look there.

Design and screen, is it up to date?

The Samsung Galaxy M20 has cut in materials and offers us a  high quality plastic back and a  front with a V-shaped notch. A rather elegant design that some will like and others will not, but that in any case follows the trends of current mobiles.

The use of the front is not as rushed as we would like and we can see a small black frame on both sides. The screen body ratio is 83%, although thanks to the presence of the aforementioned notch we manage to increase the size of the display without losing comfort. We can handle it perfectly  with one hand .

On the right side we have the volume buttons and the power key, on the left side the slot for the SIM, on the bottom the jack, the USB C and the speaker and on the back we have a double lens, the flash and the fingerprint sensor.

As for the screen, the technical specifications are not very encouraging. It is a TFT panel  with 409 ppi pixel density  . We do like the size a lot,  6.3 inches with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. How does it behave in practice? Despite not having Samsung’s mythical Super AMOLED technology and that it gives such good results, the truth is that we find a screen with  very good color reproduction, good contrast, high level of brightness and good viewing from any angle. . One more sample that we cannot judge only by the specifications on the paper.

Samsung Galaxy M20 performance

We are facing an eight-core Exynos 7904 with a maximum clock frequency of 1.8 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

The performance is not perfect. Precisely one of the last smartphones we analyzed was the  Samsung Galaxy S10 + and we did notice differences in practice at this point.

His performance is not bad if we do not demand too much of him. But we would have liked to see a little more fluidity in multitasking, since sometimes the transition from one app to another is not so immediate. Something that has worried us a little more is that sometimes the screen has changed without asking, especially when we are in the Play Store downloading apps, we have gone to the main screen without asking. We have reproduced this on two occasions. Nothing worrisome but we hope it is not constant.

It is capable of starting games of all kinds , we have tried some heavier ones like PUBG Mobile and other simpler ones like Cluedo or Helix Jump and in all cases we have been able to play without problems. Heats up slightly at the top of the rear.

In short,  a correct but not perfect performance.

Photographic section, is a mid-range worth it?

The  Samsung Galaxy M20  mounts a double rear camera with flash, composed of a 13 MP sensor   with f / 1.9 aperture  and another 5 MP sensor  with f / 2.2 aperture. For its part, the front leaves us a concise  5 MP sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. On paper we already see that the cameras are not going to be enough to keep up with other models with a better reputation in the photographic section.

We are going to see its behavior in different scenarios.

When we have good lighting conditions , during the day, with sun and in an open space, the quality of the photographs, as you can see, is quite good and leaves us with a good result.

If we talk about applying  zoom , the result is not bad, although we are quite limited since it only reaches 4 increases. We leave you an image with a wide angle, with 1x and with 4x.

Another of the tests that we always do is in the foreground , in this case we find an image with little sharpness.

And what about the  night mode ? We have to recognize that at this point it has left us a good feeling and that the photos, when transferred to the PC, look much better than on the mobile itself. It is not a perfect photograph and leaves us quite black areas, but considering the price of the terminal it is not bad at all.

Finally, the  portrait mode with the back plays a good cut, but the blur is somewhat off and a bit artificial. With the front we can’t even make a blur effect and it leaves us a very unnatural color.

Sound, connectivity, battery, software and extras of the Samsung Galaxy M20

The  sound of the Samsung Galaxy M20 is  correct . It has a single lower speaker, in the typical lower position that makes it very easy to cover it if we are playing or playing videos on YouTube in horizontal format. The volume is more than acceptable considering the range in which we move and the clarity of the sound leaves us no problem. In fact, the sound section is usually one of Samsung’s best points and here it also fulfills.

We move on to the connectivity section , where we find everything we need (Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, jack, USB C, GPS …) but where we miss the ac WiFi. Even so, we have not had any problems with the connections and at all times, both with WiFi and with data, they have been stable.

In the software section  , we are already somewhat short. And, when Android Q begins to show its paw and when the vast majority of new releases come with Android Pie, we find Oreo again with last year’s customization layer, Samsung Experience. The Samsung Galaxy M20 is in urgent need of a software update.

Regarding the security field,  we have facial recognition and a rear fingerprint sensor. In both cases the reliability of the unlocking is fast and good. The fingerprint sensor is somewhat slower than in other higher-end models, but nothing that we should particularly highlight.

We leave his best point for last: the  battery. Samsung has managed to pack 5,000 mAh into a slim body that has nothing to envy other models with much less capacity. The autonomy has been giving us a little more than  9 hours of screen on average, so, in normal conditions, you should reach two days if you do not put too much cane. Charging time is  just over 2 hours  from 0% to 100%.

The Samsung Galaxy M20  can be found for a price around 229 euros in the stores that we have just indicated.

Worth? It is a smartphone that we would recommend to those looking for a good value for money, very good autonomy, a large screen and various connectivity options , however,  it is not the ideal smartphone for those who prefer the photographic section or those looking for a premium construction . In this case, there are other options with better results and a similar price.

With the Samsung Galaxy M20, the company has shown that it can make  very good devices for a reasonable price  and has fulfilled the wishes of those (like me) who think that autonomy is one of the most important parts of a terminal.
