Alldocube M5, 4G, 2K display and 10 cores in an affordable tablet

The tablet market is not having its best moment, it has hardly changed in recent years, neither in hardware nor in design, not like what we have seen in the case of smartphones. The backwardness of tablets is especially palpable in the low and medium range; While mobiles under 200 euros are already very powerful, in tablets we still find many devices that are not very solvent in the medium and long term. This is not the case with the tablet we are reviewing today. The Alldocube M5 is a powerful, balanced and affordable tablet.

Alldocube M5 design and materials: Alldocube M5, 4G, 2K display and 10 cores in an affordable tablet

If you look at a tablet from 2013 and one from 2018 on the back, it is very likely that you will not be able to distinguish it. Sober designs without many technical filigree. Here there are no fingerprint sensors or double cameras, elements that in smartphones already seem almost essential.

The Alldocube M5 is no exception. It is not a tablet that will make you fall in love with its design, but it is not monstrously ugly either, it has a basic design, however, it may be too small. At first glance it looks like “just another Chinese tablet”. In the upper part of the back we find the camera in a classic square frame and the area with the bays for the different cards. On the upper edge we find the charging port and the headphone jack. For its part, on the right side we have the buttons and a speaker and on the left the other speaker.

Sober and simple, this is the design of the Alldocube M5.

The dimensions of the Alldocube M5 come in at 17cm high by 24cm wide and 8.7mm thick . Regarding the weight, we go to 510g, that is, just over half a kilo, a relatively adequate weight, taking into account that it is a 10.1-inch tablet.

We finish talking about the materials, where we find a classic: metal rear; a simple and effective decision. As for the front, there we have glass. It is not a particularly robust tablet, so, as always, we do not recommend experimenting with the resistance of the tablet. What’s more, it may not be a very good option as a tablet for children. Finally note that it is available in black and white.

The android tablet market has become polarized with its decline in popularity. Until very recently, we only found either very high-priced and powerful tablets or inexpensive tablets with characteristics equal to those of 2012 tablets but slightly updated. Later the dual boot tablets with Windows would arrive where Intel managed to get a big piece of the cake of the economic tablets with its Bay and Cherry-trail. Things have been changing little by little and the new range of mid-range processors and the standardization of greater amounts of RAM and storage are redefining the market for tablets, bringing it closer to its best moment, 2013. And the Alldocube M5 is a good example of it and its hardware proves it.

We started by talking about the screen. It seems that Alldocube (formerly known as CUBE) had it clear, a low resolution can ruin the experience of a large tablet. And it is that the Alldocube M5 equips a 10.1-inch 2K panel manufactured by Sharp . Undoubtedly the image is not going to be a problem when it comes to enjoying movies or series and, in addition, the sound either, since the tablet has a double speaker that will offer us stereo sound.

As for the processor, we find an interesting Mediatek Helio x20 with 10 cores . It is not the latest processor from the manufacturer but it is really powerful. We could say that it is the equivalent of the Snapdragon 625 that we have seen in so many mobiles (especially Xiaomi’s Redmi range), a sure value. In the graphic part there is the Mali T880-MP4 that will move almost the entire catalog of games from the Play Store without problem, such as PUBG . In this section we have no complaints.

There are also no reproaches in the memoirs. 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, fast and abundant. It is true that in mobile phones we are increasingly used to seeing more and more RAM, but we must not forget that a tablet a priori is not going to face so many processes in the background, so 4GB is more than enough and they will allow us to enjoy good performance for a long time. In the section of storage another positive point: 64GB of storage and bay for SD; undoubtedly the successes occur in the hardware aspect. And also in the software. Android 8.0 that will guarantee us to enjoy such useful functions as split screen or PiP (Picture in Picture) mode , which are great on large devices.

alldocube m5 connectivity

Both GPS and 4G enable the Alldocube M5 to be a useful outdoor tablet.

The photographic section is not very remarkable as in most tablets, but as we usually tell you, in this type of device we do not expect a great performance. 8 and 2 megapixels that will be more than useful for the possible video calls that we make.

Moving on to connectivity in the Alldocube M5 we find one of lime and one of sand. The wireless part is impeccable: dual band Wi-Fi, 4G with the 800 band and dual sim , GPS and Bluetooth 4.2, there is no NFC but it is not really useful on a tablet either. However, if we talk about the physical connectivity part, we find two decisions, the main one, MicroUSB as the main connectivity port and no HDMI; The latter is not essential and it could also have been solved with a Type C port, which is what corresponds in current times.

We close with the battery. The Alldocube M5 has a 6000mAh battery. An amount that, although it is not at all reduced, is not anything to write home about. Do not forget that it is a 10-inch tablet with 2K resolution and with a 4G connection, so if we make intensive use of the data connection we could see how the battery drops quickly. On the other hand we miss a recognizable fast charging system such as QuickCharge, although it is likely that, due to its processor, the tablet includes Pump Express, Mediatek’s fast charge, although the manufacturer does not specify it, as if it did with the Alldocube M3 , a less powerful tablet but with a lot of battery.
