Why is Arabic important to Islamic civilization?
The Quran condemns the consumption of alcohol. However, the words alcohol and alembic come from the Arabic language.
As we know, Arabic is the language of the Qur’an.
The Arabic language also has a civilizing purpose for a large number of speakers.
On the one hand, this language represents the identity of 220 million natives of Arab countries, being their mother tongue.
On the other, 40 million Arabic speakers are expatriates.
A brief history of the birth of Islam shows the extent to which learning to read and speak Arabic is essential for every Muslim to understand the Qur’an.
Indeed, the Holy Book of Islam – the Holy Quran – is entirely written in the Arabic language. The Koran has been translated into many languages, although Arabic is used exclusively in the liturgy, since the translation only has didactic value to help understand the original text.
It was through the dissemination of the Qur’an by Muhammad and his successors that Arabic became the language of Islam, with crucial importance to Islamic civilization even today.
The Ishmael language is also a very influential language in the Muslim and Arabic world, as well as in the rest of the world.
ATTENTION: Let us remember, since we are talking about religion, that we must distinguish between Arab and Muslim: Why is Arabic important to Islamic civilization?
The Arabs are a people, the majority of whom have Islam as their religion,
But there are Jewish Arabs and Christian Arabs,
There are also Muslims who are not Arabs (Turks, Persians (Iranians), Indonesians, Pakistanis, etc.).
Only 20% of Muslims are Arab.
Although it is a somewhat marginalized language, it is the official language of 22 Arab League countries and could be a strategic, economic and diplomatic weapon in international and intergovernmental relations.
The Arabic language is also one of the official languages of international institutions such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Maghreb Union and the African Union.
One thing is for sure : Islamic civilization has so permeated our “old continent” that our current languages use a large number of Arabic words:
Pillow,
Cistern,
Alcohol
Caliber,
Coffee,
Nape,
Racket,
Syrup,
Bowl.
