How to build French phrases
Another of the great grammatical complications of French is the construction of sentences.
The Molière language follows the SVO (Subject – Verb – Object) order, like all Roman languages (such as Spanish).
Now, to master the order and nature of the words when building French phrases and to know the different types of sentences that are used, we can resort to many options, but, yes, you have to do a lot of exercises and practice! every day!
You must make sure that you know how to conjugate the verbs in different tenses correctly (present, future simple, past compound, past simple indicative, subjunctive, imperfect, conditional, imperative …).
To learn how to build a sentence, you need to know how words are arranged, how adjectives are placed, and how verbs are conjugated. In addition, you must master the elements of comparison, which are also very important: plus (“more”) and moins (“less”).
As a general rule, comparatives of superiority and inferiority are placed before adjectives. Of course, remember that in this language, as in ours, the exceptions are endless.
Unlike what happens with English, in French adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun they accompany and are written in front of it: ” Le bel oiseau” (“The pretty bird”), ” Elena est un très belle femme ” (” Elenea is a very pretty woman “).
So we can say: ” Elena est un très belle femme, et elle est bigger than Marie, son amie” [“Elena is a very beautiful woman and is taller than Maria, her friend”].
