The main island of Japan: Honshu

Between gashapon , Okonomiyaki tasting and crazy concerts at the Robot Restaurant, Tokyo will transport you into a hellish spiral of good times that you won’t want to escape!

Why organize your vacation to Japan on the island of Honshu ? There are many reasons and many factors that could motivate you to discover Japan from Honshu, the main island of the Land of the Rising Sun, where multiple cultures and ways of life converge, from the most urban to the most rural.

The number one reason all tourists visit Honshu while in Japan is, of course, the Japanese capital, Tokyo. Traveling to Japan without exploring the epicenter of Japanese civilization would be a crime and if that’s your idea too, you’re absolutely right!

For your stay in Tokyo, you would need more than a week due to the incredible number of places you can visit in the capital of Japan. Among them we can mention:

  • Shibuya’s “downtown” neighborhood.
  • The Japanese night district: Shinjuku.
  • The Japanese Imperial Palace.
  • The artificial island of Odaiba.
  • The manga and electronics district: Akihabara.
  • The cosmopolitan party district: Roppongi.
  • The Asakusa Shrine (Senso-Ji).
  • The Tokyo Skytree.
  • The Meiji-Jingu of Harajuku.
  • Tokyo Disneyland.
  • The different museums of the capital.

Among the other cities on the island, we can talk about Kyoto, the city of temples and shrines, also a former capital, with its famous district of the Gion Geishas. Osaka is also an interesting destination in itself (and for its magnificent castle).

There are also other cities that may interest you such as Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kamakura, Nara or Nagoya.

Honshu is also the island where the famous Mount Fuji is located , the highest mountain in the Land of the Rising Sun, rich in symbolism and breathtakingly beautiful. Mount Fuji is ideal for an out-of-town excursion. This world heritage mountain is surrounded by shrines and torii that you can discover.

Kansai and Kanto specialties are also very interesting discoveries. On the menu you will find: sushi of all kinds, delicious ramen, sake (to drink in moderation) or even yakitori. Yes, traveling to Japan also means giving your stomach a treat.
