How to prepare a Portuguese class

It is important to prepare well for class before becoming a home Portuguese teacher.

The next step before giving your first class: preparation!

You have already found your first students, so now you have to plan in more detail the content of the Portuguese classes that you are going to teach.

Private classes cannot be compared to traditional classes  in public schools, with 30 students. The great advantage of private classes is that the student receives personalized teaching and advice adapted to their needs in order to advance faster.

For this reason, the teacher will have to prepare some exciting and personalized Portuguese classes. How to do it?

The first thing is to know your student, their needs, their objectives, their learning difficulties …  Ask them all the pertinent questions during the first class  to know the elements to work on and the most appropriate materials to help your student progress in grammar, spelling, conjugation, vocabulary, pronunciation, accent … Don’t forget to use a language level corresponding to your knowledge of the language.

You also have to learn to manage your time and class progress. Not because you only have one student, the class should be unstructured. Think about  dividing the class into 5 parts:

1. Review of the previous class,
2. Correction of exercises,
3. Today’s lesson,
4. Resume,
5. Homework for the following week.

Practice to make sure you have time to address all the points to see during class.
