How to prepare Russian classes?

Preparation of Russian classes in advance.
Even if Russian is your mother tongue, you will have to prepare your classes well.

Teaching a language requires a well-developed methodology . The Cyrillic alphabet, Russian grammar and phonetics are the basic components of the Russian language that your students will need to improve listening and speaking skills.

It is undeniable that a Russian teacher cannot appear in a class with his hands in his pockets, without any prior preparation.

In general, an hour of class requires an hour of preparation, especially when the teacher has little experience and is just starting out. The teacher must prepare each lesson for each student and provide unique and personalized learning content .

After a few years of experience, although customization is obviously important, it is easier to reuse course materials already prepared long ago.

However, a good teacher adapts and is constantly renewed to propose current content, anchored in the present, alive and that is of interest to the students.

Therefore, the first class is essential. More than a class, it is a first contact to get to know the student better, as well as to become familiar with their level, their desires and their tastes and thus be able to offer them adapted classes.

During this first session, it is important to define together the objectives of the student to know where to direct it.

When you are at home while preparing your class, you should:

  • List the objectives that the student must achieve;
  • under each objective, write the number of lessons;
  • look for interesting ways to learn;
  • prepare exercises to put into practice.

It is advisable to establish a schedule based on all of these elements.

Finally, remember that a  Russian class at home  has a certain duration and it is essential that you prepare it according to the time:

  • 10 minute review of the previous class: this will allow to see if the student has assimilated the notion or if he or she needs a reinforcement of concepts;
  • 20 minutes of class;
  • 20 minutes of practice through exercises;
  • 10 minute reminder of the lesson to help memorize.

Feel free to make flashcards to allow your students to review between classes.
