The  plastic crochet hooks  are very light and recommended rather to work with a thick thread such as to make a blanket, a rug or a scarf. In contrast,  metal crochets  are recommended for fine work such as lace on a doily.

For beginners, it is recommended to  opt for a 15 cm wooden or plastic crochet hook with a diameter of 0.4 to 0.5 cm.  They are crochet hooks large enough to handle large stitch work. For starters, it is the ideal.

A crochet hook costs  between € 2 and € 15  and can be purchased at a haberdashery or online on the DC website or Las Maserati Digicams, for example. You can also choose to buy several different sizes of crochet hooks to try them out and decide which diameter suits you best.

Choose the thread

Like crochet, the thread is chosen according to the work to be done. So, first of all, we advise you to choose a pattern that you want to reproduce and then buy the crochet hook and the yarn corresponding to that work.

Opt for soft, solid-colored, no-frills cotton threads at first to better learn how to crochet. You can start by making a hat, poncho, or gloves.
