The best exercises to learn to draw on your own

As you can see, to learn to draw and paint for free, above all you will have to do it self-taught. If you lack inspiration, you should know that there are many  exercises to improve in drawing , at least to start with a good base.

First, you can  practice drawing an apple  to learn not only to draw simple shapes, but also to manage the shades of gray to give an impression of relief with the play of light and shadow. From here, you can do more complicated exercises.

Drawing nature is a very good exercise to progress.

Next, you have to  learn to draw with perspective . Perspective allows you to represent a 3D landscape on a 2D medium. The perspective technique appeared quite late in the history of art, since it is not until the Renaissance that we can see the first works in perspective.

To help you understand how it works and the role of the vanishing point, a good idea is to start by drawing an urban landscape. The city provides a good understanding of the concept of depth thanks to the streets and buildings.

A good draftsman must also be able to  master colors . Wash, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils or markers … Whatever the material, colors play an important role in drawing. Keep in mind, for example, that complementary colors can help you choose the correct color combinations in a work.

To master all these techniques as well as possible, the main thing is to practice as regularly as possible. Try to set  aside 10-15 minutes a day  for drawing or painting and getting your hand used.

For example, you can  draw on the go . Sit in a corner or on public transport and have fun drawing the scenes that appear in front of you. This exercise is perfect to get carried away and avoid spending too much time drawing, as the subject will often be in motion because they are not posing for you.

Taking portraits is also a great way to progress in drawing. You have to learn to observe, but also to  correctly transcribe the proportions.  Have fun reproducing the faces of your family and friends. Then you can give them the drawing as a gift!
