Blightbound was in no condition to get out of its Early Access, and it’s a real shame

On July 27, the launch of Blightbound was made official , the promising fantasy brawler from Ronimo Games (creators of Awesomenauts ) that had a good season in Steam Early Access . Unfortunately that shouldn’t have happened yet.

Although Blightbound has everything I was willing to snack on without hesitation, its current state is far from what you would expect from a game that has just come out of Early Access , or what the Devolver Digital label usually delivers. .

A promising premise: Blightbound was in no condition to get out of its Early Access, and it’s a real shame

The premise is tremendous. A brawler in which to complete dungeons alone or with two other friends , with different classes for which you will unlock new characters with new abilities and special powers, with an RPG touch in which to increase stats, change weapons and equip armor and accessories.

Cool bosses to play on high difficulty, a variety of targets despite the usual salt from A to B, a simply spectacular comic book art style, and enough replayability to last well over a couple of afternoons.

Then there is, of course, the security that comes with having the Devolver seal behind it, and in fact it’s easy to see how the game fell in favor with the editor, because when it works well it does it like a charm and is very entertaining. But -because when things look so good there are always some buts- there are too many mistakes to look the other way.

Much to improve

To a tutorial that hangs, and that you give up for the third time for not being able to skip the introduction kinematics, there are problems in the artificial intelligence of the bots when performing actions as basic as placing themselves on a button so that You can open a door, agonizing minutes waiting to find someone to play with, or visual problems that prevent you from seeing your companions and enemies when the stars align and you find a game.

If you deal with one of them, well, you excuse it thinking that they are indie development things, problems derived from having just reached a date, or errors that can be fixed afterwards. If you have to deal with all of them at once – yes, bots also birk when another player is involved – continuing to play becomes tedious .

But beware, it is not one of those cases of giving it up for lost, but of taking a hole. What the hell, I want to play this properly. The little that I have been able to enjoy properly I have done with a smile and, as much as it is not going to be one of those games that change your life, I place my chair in front of the door of Blightbound waiting for someone to appear and he told me ” hey, you can play properly now .” Hopefully sooner rather than later.
