Capcom closes the best first quarter of its history thanks to Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil 8

The company beats its revenue and profit record, meeting all expectations.

Capcom has published this morning the financial report with the results of the first quarter of its fiscal year, which covers from April to June 2021 . A period in which, as usual for four years now, the Japanese company has broken its own record and has signed the best fiscal Q1 in its history . The reasons for its success? They’re what you’re all thinking about: the launch of Monster Hunter Rise four days before the quarter, and the premiere of Resident Evil 8: Village in May.

In its official statement, Capcom states that “net income and all profit metrics have reached record levels ” for a first quarter of the fiscal year, driven by big name releases and digital sales growth. To illustrate with figures, net sales for the period were 48,723 million yen (374M euros), an increase of + 104.1% over the previous year, while operating income was 23,604 million yen (+ 120.4%) and ordinary income grew to 23,899 million yen (+ 125%). In other words, they have doubled all the data for 2020 , a period that fully experienced the “boom” of the pandemic.

The company highlights the growth of digital sales as the main driver of these results, supported by the two large launches that we mentioned before. Although Monster Hunter Rise was published in the last quarter of the previous year (January – March 2021), its launch near the end of the month, together with its continued good performance, push its figures up to the 7 million games sold that we saw in May. . For its part, Resident Evil 8: Village debuted with those 4.5 million sales in two months , which denote great interest in the saga.

Between these two games, and the catalog titles, Capcom has sold a total of 13.3 million paid games during the period , 44.6% more than a year ago. While these results may seem exceptional to Capcom, the company has been in a state of grace for so long that the records no longer affect its plans: Capcom maintains intact its fiscal year forecasts published in May, and expects to bill about 768 million euros in the whole year.
