Contemporary photography
Throughout the history of photography, artistic styles have varied enormously. From the creation of photography in the late 19th century to the Instagram posts of recent years, photographers have come a long way.
So what do we mean when we talk about “contemporary photography”?
Often mistakenly referred to as “modern photography” by beginning photographers, contemporary photography corresponds to a defined period on specific dates.
Contemporary photography encompasses all photos taken from 1980 to the present day.
So it’s quite a large collection!
Sandro Miller, Sabine Pigalle, Thomas Ruff, Terry Richardson, Richard Avedon… many photographic artists have enriched this catalog.
But it must also be borne in mind that encompasses different currents.
On the one hand we find plastic photography (“photographie plasticienne”). This current of French origin encompasses more graphic than documentary works and departs from the photos used in the journalistic field.
Plastic photographs are recognized works in the world of Fine Arts.
There are also other schools that are part of , as the pictoralista photograph (or “Pictorialism”) or even photograph opinion of Raymon Depardon. This last trend allows the author to convey his own perspective through images.
Fashion photography is also part of the currents of the contemporary field. This type of photography has become extremely important in recent years.
Be that as it may, what is clear is that still has a long way to go .
