How to learn to sew quickly?

Becoming a dressmaker capable of coming up with creative ideas and carrying them out takes some time, but knowing how to sew can be learned in a few weeks , depending on your motivation and the time you can devote to it.

Know how to sew by hand

When we learn something new, we have to repeat it many times to integrate it. A bit like when you learn a new language. We repeat the vocabulary often to integrate it quickly. It is the same with sewing. And first of all, you have to know how to sew by hand.

For that, there is no trick: you have to do exercises ! Dotted lines, to be precise. Back stitch, party stitch, pull stitch, chain stitch, we take a piece of fabric, draw the lines and go ahead with your thread, needle and thimble!

Learn to sew in stages

With each new project, try to learn a new sewing technique. To learn quickly, nothing better than writing your goals in a notebook to have an overview of your progress and the road ahead.

There are no secrets, you have to practice and start with simple pieces. It is more satisfying to do an easy piece well than to jump into a complicated piece and end up frustrated and unmotivated because it doesn’t turn out well.

Above all, you have to be curious. Want to learn new things every day and learn from mistakes. It is normal to do them, it is part of learning. The important thing is not to get frustrated and integrate them into the learning process, instead of giving up at the first difficulty.

Of course, if you can put money into your learning, the quickest way to perfect yourself is to go to class with a teacher.
