Infinix Note 8, an affordable mid-range more powerful than it seems

0

The  Infinix Note 8 is a mobile from a low-renowned Chinese brand that, against all odds, manages to capture the attention of users due to the solidity of its offer, or at least when we talk about the mid-range segment. In this sense, it is an inexpensive terminal with very interesting and competitive features for what it costs, notably it has a Helio G80 chip that gives it considerable power and is ideal for running Android games without problems.

Other notable features of it are: large screen of almost 7 inches, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, internal 5,200mAh battery and quad camera with AI; all this and more for a price of 200 euros or less (probably less). Without a doubt, the company has refined its phones a lot since the days of the  Infinix Note 4 , so it is worth taking a look.

A design that measures up: Infinix Note 8, an affordable mid-range more powerful than it seems

The Infinix Note 8 is an attractive terminal in aesthetic terms, although we question its durability since the construction of the body is plastic. With that said, the rear features a gem-cut design available in 3 attractive colors: blue, gray and silver.

In this vein, the device measures about 175.3 x 78.8 x 9mm, so there is nothing objectively wrong with it. At the rear is a quad camera and nothing else, since the fingerprint reader has been conveniently relocated to the right side, sharing its space with the power button.

The interesting thing is in the front, where it outlines a 6.95-inch panel with pill-shaped perforation for the dual front camera. Despite its generous size, the resolution it offers is only HD + (1,640 x 720) , which detracts from some good points when considering that most mobiles with the same price do reach FullHD +.

But all is not lost, as it has a decent brightness level (480nits) and a lower screen resolution helps reduce power consumption.

Mediatek Helio G80 on board

The Infinix Note 8 is often touted as a cheap gaming phone, and for good reason, that mid-range Helio G80 chip isn’t there for nothing. As connoisseurs of the subject will know, this SoC denotes a good level of power capable of keeping the mobile fluid and responsive. If to the above we add the 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage present in the Infinix Note 8, we will know that we have a good experience in store .

Infinix Note 8 - Helio G80

In this sense, playing titles like  Asphalt 9 and PUBG Mobile is a possibility as long as we choose a medium graphic quality, which will allow the terminal to provide a fluid and consistent frame rate per second most of the time. We certainly cannot compare this device with those mobiles designed specifically for games; but it doesn’t make sense to do so either, the Infinix Note 8 is simply an affordable phone that turns out to be able to run games just fine.

In a different vein, a 5,200mAh battery powers the terminal, and thanks to the relatively low resolution of the screen combined with the optimization of the Helio G80, we can expect a respectable autonomy of one or two days with frequent use. It unexpectedly supports 18W fast charging , earning it a few extra points.

Infinix Note 8 - Sound

Another aspect that we can praise is the presence of stereo speakers with DTS audio for an immersive sound experience.

And so far we can leave the praise, because it is the following aspect that disappoints us a bit, and it is about the operating system. The installed version is Android 10 which , although not very old, is obfuscated by the manufacturer’s custom interface, OSX7.1, which includes bloatware and cosmetic changes that not everyone will find pleasant.

Cameras

For a budget mobile with such good performance, we would expect a considerable cut in the photographic department, but surprisingly it is not the case. The manufacturer has endowed the Infinix Note 8 with a rear quad camera, which is composed of a 64MP main sensor , a 2MP macro camera, 2MP wide angle and a 2MP depth sensor.

Quad Camera with AI

For its part, the front camera combines a 16MP sensor accompanied by another 2MP . It is not a high-end camera, that is clear, but it will serve to take sharp selfies and with bokeh effect.

In the case of the rear camera, the set can achieve more than decent quality photos and videos, but that only applies during the day, since even the Ultra Night 2.0 mode advertised by the manufacturer can work miracles when night falls. The appearance of noise and loss of detail in low light conditions is very noticeable, and without a doubt there are mobiles in the same range that do a better job of mitigating this.
