It turns out that Steam Deck has better features than those announced by Valve at the beginning

Gabe Newell’s company updates the data sheet of his portable console with new data about its memory.

Steam Deck is already a reality. Valve’s secret project has turned out to be this union of PC and portable console with the ability to connect to the television, in the style of Nintendo Switch, which can now be reserved through Steam . A machine that turns out to have better performance than originally announced, at least in terms of memory. Valve has updated the Steam Deck datasheet to correct a fact about the console’s RAM , which is now even more striking.

Originally, Valve claimed that the Steam Deck would have 16GB LPDDR5 RAM at 5,500 MT / s (dual-channel). The initial part was correct, the three editions of the console will carry all these 16GB of RAM with speeds of 5,500 MT / s. However, the final part has turned out to be wrong. Steam Deck will not use two RAM modules, but four . It will have a memory of 16GB LPDDR5 5,500 MT / s (quad 32-bit channels) , as shown by the new specifications of the console on its US website.

How does this affect your performance? Basically, Steam Deck will have a much higher memory bandwidth available than previously expected, something of great importance for the architecture of this machine. Steam Deck uses an APU (CPU + GPU) so both modules share the same memory when operating, unlike what happens in desktop computers. Higher bandwidth allows both of them to operate without restrictions and with greater agility, which translates into better performance .

Announced just a week ago, the Steam Deck will begin reaching homes from December 2021 . Valve’s console will be an open platform, allowing different operating systems and applications to be installed as on any PC, and it has earned the praise of the president of Epic Games for this. Likewise, Valve claims to have worked hard to avoid the dreaded stick drift on its console . Steam Deck may not have left Valve yet, but in this other news we invite you to leave your opinion about the console .
