Italian artists to know if you are interested in art history
Throughout its history, as rich as it is passionate, the great Italian artists have had a notable influence both on their country and on its history.
The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci: an example of a timeless work of art.
Obviously, we cannot cite all of them here.
We have had to choose only a few Italian artists who have made the country known to the whole world.
Dante Alighieri: Italian artists to know if you are interested in art history
Born in Florence and died in Ravenna in 1321, Dante Alighieri is a Tuscan poet and writer.
A prominent figure in the humanist movement in Italy (along with Petrarca and Bocaccio), Dante Alighieri allowed the Tuscan language to supplant Latin to become the official language of the country.
To achieve this, he uses a form of this Tuscan language (Florentine) to write his masterpiece: the Divine Comedy.
In his verses, he uses multiple words from different dialects in order to get everyone to understand his story.
Indeed, Dante did not want only his most learned contemporaries to appreciate his story. He wanted the Divine Comedy to be shared by the vast majority.
In addition, he wanted to polish the coat of arms of his language and at the same time show his nobility (which, according to him, had nothing to envy Latin).
His risky bet was a success, since thanks to the diffusion of the Divine Comedy throughout the country, Florentine became the official language and was transformed over the centuries until it became the Italian we know today.
Leonardo da Vinci
Another Italian genius to whom Italy, Europe and the world owe a great debt: Leonardo da Vinci.
Born in Tuscany in 1456 and died in Amboise in 1515, Leonardo da Vinci possessed many talents.
We know that he was as interested in civil engineering as in inventions, painting, sculpture or mathematics.
Surely you know La Gioconda or La Cena , two of his paintings that represent the genius of the artist.
Not forgetting that before anyone else he imagined various gadgets, such as the plane, the submarine or the car.
Miguel Angel
Another genius of painting: Michelangelo.
Born in 1475 in the Florentine Republic and died in Rome in 1564, he was recognized in life for his immense talent.
In addition, influential figures of the time commissioned works from him, such as Pope Clement VII, Paul III or Julius II.
Among his best known creations are the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel or his sculpture of David.
