Being born in times of pandemic is not easy. Neither for the grown-ups. The new  Huawei P40  has managed to open a gap in this difficult moment and give us back the illusion for technology and everything we can do with it. From Paris and live streaming around the world, Richard Yu has unveiled the new Huawei smartphones . It is still too early to start talking about the “best smartphone of the year”, but there is no doubt that the company will once again have the best aces in its deck. Let the game begin.

Huawei P40 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro +: the most desired: Launch Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro +: many news and a company that has emerged stronger from adversity

With the Huawei P30 Pro as its predecessor and the bar very high, Huawei tries to revalidate its title as king of mobile photography and brings us a  renewal in its design,  both on the front, where it eliminates the notch and opts for a perforated camera on screen, as on the back, where you now opt for a camera package arranged in a rectangle in the upper left.

The screen of the P40 Pro and P40 Pro + goes up to 6.58 inches , keeping a comfortable size in hand thanks to the reduction of the edges to the maximum expression, with a curved water effect finish and its 19.8: 9 aspect ratio . On this occasion, Huawei has opted for an OLED  panel  with 2,650 x 1,200 px resolution  , 441 ppi and 90 Hz and a  fingerprint sensor under the screen that promises up to 30% faster than previous generations. In addition, both models have IP68 protection  .

Available colors are  silver frost, blush gold, deep blue, ice white  for the Pro and  Ceramic Black / Ceramic White  for the Pro +, with a matte finish.

As for the cameras, there are more differences between these two terminals. The  Huawei P40 Pro has a quad rear camera composed of a 40 MP f / 1.8 Ultra Wide Cine sensor  + 50 MP f / 1.9 Ultra Vision Wide + 12 MP f / 3.4 telephoto with 5x optical zoom + ToF sensor.

For its part, the  Huawei P40 Pro +  debuts a configuration of five cameras: Ultra Wide Cine 40 MP f / 1.8 + Ultra Vision Wide 50 MP f / 1.9 + 8MP f / 3.4 telephoto with 10x optical zoom + 8 MP f / 2.4 telephoto with 3x optical zoom + ToF sensor. It debuts, for the first time on a smartphone, a  dual optical zoom , in addition to employing both a 50x hydro zoom and a 100x digital zoom.

As is usual in these events, they have shown some examples of photographs taken with these mobiles, where their ability to capture light even in the worst conditions and an improvement in portrait mode stands out, which, until now, was Huawei’s great pending issue. with respect to the competition.

Its software also brings some improvements, such as a  more precise Artificial Intelligence  or the feature that has caught our attention the most, the possibility of  deleting elements of the photo afterwards , to eliminate, for example, reflections and other unwanted elements.

The sensors built into the in-display camera are worth a look. Here, Huawei engineers have managed to implement  proximity sensor, ambient sensor, IR and a 32 MP f / 2.2 camera with 4K recording. It also features better screen unlocking, even in poor lighting conditions, gesture control for taking screenshots or swiping and “private view”, which allows content to only be displayed when the camera recognizes its owner alone and thus avoid unwanted glances.

As for video improvements  , both the P40 and P40 + include a 40 MP cinema camera that allows 4K recording at 60 fps and rescues functions such as dual video (to record a scene with and without zoom at the same time) .

Regarding the sound, it has  three all-direction microphones  located on the top, bottom and in the rear camera package to achieve clearer calls and videos.

Almost by the end of the presentation they have left the operating brain data for this new family. Kirin 990 5G , as expected, puts all its performance at the service of these models, boasting of being an all-in-one 5G SoC, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage for the Pro and 512 GB for the Pro +. It also offers a slot for 2 nano SIM or nano SIM + NM Card. They have support for  eSIM .

Battery is one of the highlights always in Huawei’s ranks. In this case, its high-end includes  4,200 mAh  and fast charging at 40W . As a novelty, Huawei will begin to market a 40W wireless charger (the fastest on the market) for the P40 Pro + model.

All this comes with EMUI 10.1  and without Google support. It includes some new features for its software, such as a practical multi- window system or a multi- device control panel, to manage the entire Huawei ecosystem (speakers, headphones …) from here, as well as  Celia , its new virtual assistant, or  MeeTime , a new app for to make video calls.

If Huawei has wanted to highlight something in this presentation, it is that it  does not need Google at all  and that  its Huawei Mobile Services  are enough to achieve a full, complete and totally independent ecosystem.

Huawei P40: the base model

About the Huawei P40, the most modest model of the three presented by Richard Yu, few brushstrokes have been made, making it clear that the jewel in the crown are the two models on which the company focuses. About it, they have commented that it has a  6.1-inch screen .
