Motorola Defy, Motorola’s first ruggedized mobile

The mythical Motorola has just presented something that we honestly do not expect, it is therefore its first foray -or excursion considering the end- in the field of rugged smartphones. In this sense, the brand announces the Motorola Defy, a rustic terminal made to survive adversity and setbacks, with IP68 water resistance and the MIL-SPEC 810H military standard.

Let’s start with what characterizes the Motorola Defy: its resistance. We are not just talking about a waterproof terminal that can be submerged to depths of 1.5 meters for 35 minutes; it is also made to survive drops of up to 1.8m thanks to its double sealed housing and reinforced PCB .

As you would expect from a good ruggedized phone, it has undergone tough durability tests before reaching the market, which gives it the MIL-SPEC 810H military standard .

Similarly, the screen is protected by a thick layer of Corning Gorilla Victus glass, which ensures that it does not receive scratches. And speaking of screen, the Motorola Defy outlines a 6.5-inch panel with HD + resolution .

As can be seen in the images, a small hand strap hangs from one of the corners of the terminal to always have it close at hand (literally).

Mid-range hardware and long battery life

Unsurprisingly, the Motorola Defy is essentially a mid-range device with a reinforced casing, so we’re not surprised to see Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 chip as the engine. Along with it we will find 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage , which fortunately can be expanded via Micro SD up to 512GB.

With that said, the mobile is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that promises two days of life, as well as supports 20W charging.

On the other hand, the operating system of turn is Android 10, but it can be carried over to Android 11 via OTA. Device connectivity options range from 4G LTE Cat to Bluetooth 5.0, including  Wi-Fi and NFC for electronic payments.

At the photographic level, it includes a rear quad camera headed by a 48MP sensor. As a secondary sensor we find an 8MP wide angle and immediately afterwards a 2MP macro camera along with a 2MP depth sensor. Lastly, the selfie camera is 8MP.
