Oculus Quest 2 temporarily stops being sold due to skin irritation in some users

The news comes a month before the launch of the new model of virtual reality glasses.

Facebook has just announced that it is temporarily halting the sale of its successful Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality glasses due to a problem detected in one of the device’s components that caused “a small percentage of customers” skin irritation on the face. Enough so that the company has chosen to stop the production of these glasses and release others with a different component.

This news comes a few weeks after the launch of a new Oculus Quest 2 model with greater storage capacity, although it is not something new for the users of these virtual reality glasses, since at the beginning of 2021 Oculus itself confirmed these problems in a official statement . “We have identified traces of substances that usually appear in the manufacturing process and that could cause skin discomfort ,” they commented at the time.

Customers with glasses manufactured before January 4 can receive a replacement facial interface“The levels at which they appeared were already below the industry standard, but, to exercise extreme caution, we have changed our manufacturing system with the aim of reducing them even more.” All those who bought the glasses before January 4 were given the option to change the facial interface for one without this problem but in 3DJuegos we have been able to verify that even those who bought the glasses in the following months have been able to request the change of the facial interface at no cost.

For now, Facebook is working on a new silicone coating that will cover the problematic foam. And while they warn that irritation problems are mild, apparently there have been some more serious cases with people whose face has become inflamed to the point of closing their eyes . “Consumers who have experienced irritation or a skin reaction should immediately stop using the recalled foam facial interface, and all consumers should contact Facebook to receive silicone coverage,” advises one of the United States government agencies, the US Product Safety Commission.

It is unknown if Facebook will later redesign the Oculus Quest 2 facial interface, beyond incorporating this silicone covering.
