What are the functions of a firefighter: Prepare the exams to be a firefighter

Firefighters are at the service of all people and, although we can think that their work focuses only on the prevention and extinction of fires, their functions go much further. We summarize the main functions of a firefighter:

• Fire extinction and prevention (urban, forest, …)
• Accidents: They participate in the liberation of the victims in any type of accident.
• Emergencies
• Search for victims in catastrophes.
• Aquatic rescue and any danger.
• Maintenance of your own equipment.

In addition to going to any emergency where a person is in danger, firefighters must follow a training that allows them to stay fit and prepared for any circumstance.

Requirements to oppose firefighter

The requirements to present to a bomberto opposition will depend on the city council that summons them but, in general, you must comply with:

• Nationality : Possess the Spanish nationality or one of the member countries of the European Union .
• Age : Be over  16 years old .
• Qualification : Having obtained the academic qualification necessary for each group or subgroup to which we apply, with the minimum qualification being School Graduate,   First Degree FP or  Graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education.  You must verify the degree required in the call for which you wish to apply.
• Driving license: You will need B and BTP permits as minimum requirements. If you want to present yourself as a firefighter driver you will need the C truck permit .
• Personality test and psychotechnical tests.
• Medical certificate.

These are the common requirements in all the calls, but you will also have to take physical tests for which you cannot have limitations that prevent you from performing them.

Syllabus of firefighting courses

To prepare the theoretical tests for a firefighter competition you will have to study:

• Legislative issues of constitutional law, administrative law and public function.
• General issues related to the specific opposition or place where you present your candidacy.
• Topics specific to the profession of firefighter: theory of fire and extinction, everything related to rescue, first aid and media, fire regulations, dangerous materials, fleet and protection.

Tests to access the Fire Department

Normally the oppositions to opt for a fixed position in the Fire Department of an Autonomous Community consist of 4 tests:

1. Theoretical test : where you will examine all the topics learned in your preparation.
2. Physical test : in each call the specific exercises, the duration and the time trials are specified.
3. Psychotechnical test and personality test.
4. Medical examination : to ensure that the candidate will be able to perform the functions of a firefighter perfectly, once the previous tests have been passed, a complete medical examination is carried out.

If you want to work as a bomber, you will have to meet the requirements mentioned above and pass the theoretical-physical tests . Once successfully passed, you will be eligible for a permanent position in the Fire Department of the town hall or province to which you have applied.

Firefighter competitions are held throughout the year . It is not an annual call, but each city ​​council or province on which each fire department depends proposes a job offer that becomes an opposition and decides the tests and dates of the call.
