Samsung defies the human eye with a 600 megapixel sensor
Camera setup has established itself as the mainstay of high-end phones in the past few seasons, so it’s not surprising that companies are constantly working on new solutions for the market. However, Samsung seems to go a bit further with the development of a 600 megapixel sensor .
Through an editorial by Yongin Park , who is the leader of the commercial sensors team in Samsung’s LSI division, has surprised with the announcement of a camera development capable of capturing more than what the natural capacity of the camera allows. human eye: 600 megapixels versus 500 megapixels .
A long-term Samsung project: Samsung defies the human eye with a 600 megapixel sensor
Unlike the sensor that the South Korean giant presented in August last year ( Isocell of 108 megapixels for mobile phones ), in this case there is still enough work ahead to be able to include it in commercial proposals and it is indicated that it could also be used in products such as vehicles autonomous drones, equipment IoT, etc. .
In the case of smartphones, a 600 megapixel sensor would cause problems related to its enormous size , to the point that it is almost impossible to insert it into the available space in a modern Smartphone. To lower its dimensions Samsung will have to reduce the size of the pixels, which would require the use of pixel binning technology to ensure that the smaller pixels do not produce opaque images.
At the moment it is expected that Samsung will rejoin with Xiaomi as a manufacturer for the premiere of a new NanoCell sensor with a capacity of 150 megapixels during the next few months, and there have even been rumors about a sensor of up to 190 megapixels that could be part of some phone in the rest of 2020.
What do you think of the latest cameras present in Samsung mobiles? Is not such an increase in sensor capacity in a matter of months unnecessary?
