Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: The Titans are here
Following Samsung’s Unpacked event and the smoke cleared, we can finally appreciate the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra in all its glory. These titans of the South Korean company are everything we expected and more, having the best of the best in a large presentation that does not skimp on any aspect. As you can guess, it is time to get to know them thoroughly.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra: Design and screen: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: The Titans are here
At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra looks more square than its base model due to the way the corners are marked. With that in mind, the Ultra model has a pronounced curvature on the screen, which is not present in its brother. Also, both have a punch hole selfie camera accentuating the center of the panel.
Speaking of the screen, this is where the differences between the two devices begin to be marked with greater force, since the Note 20 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with Full HD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels), while the screen The Note 20 Ultra’s Dynamic is larger at 6.9 inches and also offers a sharper QHD resolution (3,088 x 1,400 pixels).
Size is not the only difference between the two screens. In this sense, the Note 20 Ultra presents a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate that adjusts depending on what you’re doing. On the other hand, the standard Galaxy Note 20 has a regular 60Hz refresh rate.
Coming back to design, the Galaxy Note 20 lineup has moved the buttons to the right side to make room for the S Pen on the left edge. Lastly, this year’s color submissions include gray, green, and bronze , with the latter being the featured color for the lineup.
S Pen and other functions
The S Pen remains one of the main features of the Galaxy Note family, so it’s no surprise that Samsung’s flagship has introduced new features, specifically faster response times. In the case of the Note 20, the latency of the S Pen has been shortened to 26 ms, while in the Ultra it has been reduced to 9 ms.
Additionally, Samsung has built on last year’s Air Gestures by adding new actions. The new gestures allow you to return to the home screen or previous applications, among other functions. As if that weren’t enough, the Galaxy Note 20s are compatible with Microsoft’s xCloud cloud gaming service, allowing you to enjoy your favorite Xbox games on your Galaxy Note.
We also want to mention the Samsung DeX function , which now does not depend on a cable or dock to connect to a monitor, but does so wirelessly as long as the latter supports Miracast.
Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865 Plus on board
At the hardware level, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 family is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ or Exynos 990 chip , it all depends on the region where you buy it, but we can assume that the version with Exynos 990 is the one that plays in Europe.
Regardless of the processor, the standard Galaxy Note 20 is confirmed to feature 8GB of RAM plus 256GB of internal storage, while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra ups the ante to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of ROM . It should also be noted that only this last device supports memory expansion via Micro-SD (maximum 1TB).
When it comes to autonomy, both are very similar, with the Galaxy Note 20 having a capacity of 4,300mAh and with the Ultra model reaching 4,500mAh . Either way, both devices support 25W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse. Samsung claims that 50% of the battery can be recovered in as little as 30 minutes using the wired method.
It goes without saying that the chosen operating system is Android 10 along with Samsung’s One UI interface, which enjoys the advantages and functions provided by the S Pen.
As you might expect, both models are 5G compatible, although the standard Galaxy Note 20 has a 4G-only version for those who aren’t interested in making the jump just yet. It should also be noted that they support Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / ax, Bluetooth 5.0, electronic payments by NFC, ANT +, GPS and more.
Top cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 has a 12MP main sensor , accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 64MP telephoto lens. This camera is capable of 3x lossless zoom and shooting in impressive 8K resolution.
As for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra , it adopts the 108MP main camera from the S20 Ultra, and is supported by a laser autofocus sensor aimed at eliminating some of the focus issues that Samsung’s previous phone suffered. Additional lenses on the Note 20 Ultra include a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens that can offer 5x optical zoom. For its part, the selfie camera uses a 10MP sensor with f / 2.2 aperture and autofocus for both phones.
