At the end of last year we saw the arrival of the first smartphone with a 108MP camera, and if the rumors floating around the internet these days turn out to be true, then next month we will see the arrival of the first smartphone with a 192MP camera. This alleged information comes from an authority on the subject of smartphones, specifically from the Chinese tipster Digital Chat  Station , who assures on Weibo that during the month of May we will witness the arrival of the first smartphone with a 192MP camera, which would come from the hand of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chip. 

192MP camera smartphones so soon? : Smartphones with 192MP sensor: close reality or baseless rumor?

Well, technically the processor alluded to by the tipster, the Snapdragon 765 (SM7250), certainly offers compatibility for sensors up to 192MP . However, it only comes with support for snapshots, functions like HDR or any other feature that involves multi-frame processing will not be possible with this camera, at least not in theory. 

We obviously haven’t seen the first smartphone with a 192MP camera, and that’s because there just is n’t such a sensor yet. On top of that, one is also not known to be in development, so if the rumor turned out to be real, it would be a huge surprise to everyone and an excellent marketing opportunity for the manufacturing company. 

Also, although the  tipster  claims that the device exists, it does not give any indication of the brand that will make it , which does not help to validate his claims. For now, this leak seems too good to be true, and we naturally recommend taking it with a pinch of salt. However, if a manufacturer is really working on a 192-megapixel phone, more rumors and leaks will soon emerge. 

On the other hand, assuming the   Chinese leakster is correct, the device most likely belongs to Xiaomi or Samsung. Either way, we’ll find out next month .
