The action was fluid and I was able to test the Tropical Resort levels to confirm that everything was still in place with Colors. Remembering the replayable factor also helped me value, more if possible, the elements that made Colors a title celebrated by the community. Big announcements were planned for last year, but the pandemic cut short the party’s plans. Although some of the first steps to follow for the coming months of celebration have been revealed, the reality is that I would love to know more about Sonic Rangers, the standard bearer of the anniversary.
Surely Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a good advance, but I must admit that I expected much more from such an important date. For now, we will have to settle for waiting for the next September 7 and return to enjoy one of the most remembered and inaccessible deliveries of recent times. Being one of the most celebrated installments on Nintendo land, it seems that rescuing it for the 30th anniversary of Sonic has sounded like music for Sega and its collaborators. Among the mediocrity of the 21st century Sonic Team there are a series of projects that shine with their own light and that have managed to make a unanimous niche among fans of the once brilliant saga of the blue hedgehog. One of them is the first Sonic Rush , a production with the DIMPS seal that managed to reconcile the hedgehog with 2D platforms with a series of fresh ideas and taking advantage of the possibilities of playing a Sonic on two screens in the then novel Nintendo DS . The other great game in the series also landed on exclusive Nintendo territory and became one of the best three-dimensional Sonic titles since the days of Dreamcast: Sonic Colors .
Sonic Colors landed on Wii without much hope among fans. The franchise launched its third video game on the revolutionary Kyoto console after two attempts with better intention than execution . Sonic and the Secret Rings in 2007 and Sonic and the Black Night tried to take the mythology of the Sega mascot into the tales of the Arabian Nights and the Arthurian cycle with mixed luck and with one of the best songs of Crush 40, Knight of the Wind, a musical gift for any fan of the series. Sonic Colors was different: it tried to innovate in playability and sought to find a balance between 2D and 3D platforms with greater success than other productions seen in the 2000s for different generations of PlayStation and Xbox.
So it was not surprising that Sega wanted to rescue him under the unsurprising subtitle of Sonic Colors: Ultimate .
