TCL presents its prototype folding smartphone with 3 hinges
TCL is a renowned smartphone manufacturer that has just presented its first folding smartphone prototype, taking a first step in this new market where we can find very few examples, including the Huawei Mate X, Galaxy Fold and Mi MIX Alpha . This type of mobile is undoubtedly the latest trend in fashion, but perhaps it is a trend doomed to disappear, we still do not know precisely.
TCL mobile folds like a triptych: TCL presents its prototype folding smartphone with 3 hinges
The TLC prototype of is an extremely interesting one, since it does not have one or two hinges, but three, which means that it can be folded 3 times. The result is something similar to folding a triptych . TCL is still not confident enough to show the specs, but they have at least given CNET the opportunity to take a first look at a non-functional prototype:
From what we can see, the mobile sports a screen of at least 10 inches , which can be folded in three key points. When fully unfolded it offers as much usable space as a tablet, and when fully folded one third of the screen is still usable by the user.
Finally, it can be mentioned that it has a quad camera in the rear aligned horizontally . However, we also do not know the characteristics of the sensors.
Undoubtedly, TCL’s proposal is very different from what is conceived by other manufacturers, but it is still at a very early stage . The prototype shown is non-functional, and wrinkles can be seen on the surface when folding. Therefore, the company still has several engineering challenges to overcome, so we have no expectations of a near launch.
