Teaching Russian at a high school

Speaking Russian can also allow you to join a public or private high school or university to teach your language.

To do this, you must have some type of qualification. You can take:

• A degree in Russian philology, translation and interpretation, or Russian language studies.
• A teaching master’s degree such as the European Master’s Degree in Teaching Accreditation for Teachers of Russian.

The language teaching in high school is subject to certain rules and, unfortunately, in Spain, there are no centers just where Russian is taught as a foreign language. In the case of private and concerted schools, a program must be followed and the pedagogy must meet the needs of the students.

Becoming an associate professor of Russian at university

To deepen your knowledge of Russian culture and go further in learning a specificity of the language, you can also consider getting some kind of doctoral thesis on Russian to teach at the faculty.

The ideal way to do this is to first go through a degree related to the language and then continue with a research profile training in teaching and Russian studies.

This master’s degree is also used to teach in secondary school, as we have already discussed.

When entering the university, you will have to bear in mind that there is a lot of competition and that you even have to prepare for entrance exams or points contests.

In the case of Russian, there are tests that aim to test your skills in composition, translation and phonology / grammar along with some kind of text commentary, oral translation sometimes in front of a jury.
