What qualifications do you need to teach Portuguese?
What qualifications do you need to teach Portuguese?
If you want to become a Portuguese teacher in a public center, as we have mentioned before, you must have a university degree. These are some of the ones you can take:
- Degree in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies (USAL)
- Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures – Portuguese (University of Extremadura)
- Degree in Galician and Portuguese: Linguistic and Literary Studies (UDC)
Study a career related to Portuguese to become a civil servant teacher.
If you don’t want to study for a university degree, don’t worry, because you don’t need a degree to give private Portuguese classes .
But if you master the language of Camões and want to teach without taking any degree, you have to justify your level, unless your mother tongue is Portuguese, in which case it would not be necessary.
If this is not the case, you can indicate all the studies and experience related to Portuguese (some certificate, Portuguese course in Lisbon or Rio, Erasmus stay …)
