Wiko View3, its camera and low price are its best assets

Wiko View3 or Wiko View 3 is the smartphone launched by the French company, it is the sweet one aimed at the entry-middle range. A product more than enough for day to day, with 3 GB of RAM and Helio P22 processor. The most interesting point lies in its photographic section with three rear cameras with AI image processing (HDR mode). A smartphone aimed at a young audience and at a groundbreaking price.

Wiko offers a catalog of devices with fun and trendy aesthetics. As was received, the Wiko View3 has a glass rear construction and presents a very attractive gradient . Of course, this material has a big drawback, the finger mark. Rounded edges extend this finish for a sense of continuity.

Wiko View 3 is comfortable to hold and use thanks to the one-handed mode

We continue in this back part and we see the triple camera module, which when protruding slightly, the smartphone does not remain firm on a surface (but it tilts less than other phones). It also has an LED flash and a fingerprint reader, with good recognition and in a comfortable position. Its dimensions are 159 x 76.5 x 8.2 mm and it weighs 178 g. A successful weight with a 4,000 mAh battery.

The front of the Wiko View 3 does not get rid of the notch, but it is much less intrusive when opting for a drop of water type. This way, the 6.26-inch screen occupies about 80% of the front. We finish with the review of the connections. On the lower edge we have the main microphone well attached to the Micro USB connector, a shame since the Pro version does incorporate a USB-C. In the upper one we see a headphone jack and a secondary microphone. The tray on the left side allows the placement of two Nano SIM cards, or Nano SIM and micro SD.

Features: small but brave

It is the turn of the technical sheet of the Wiko View3. The standard version of the model has a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset , an octa-core that reaches 2 GHz. The technical processor of the smartphone offers a fairly solid performance for everyday activities. It is accompanied by an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU at 650 MHz, enough for current titles with a medium graphic load. We add the 3 GB of RAM and a storage of 64 GB, with the possibility of adding a microSD of up to 256 GB.

As we have mentioned, day-to-day life is no problem for the Wiko View 3. Its technical heart can handle messaging apps, web browsing, GPS or YouTube at 720p. The runtime of the apps is good and the phone runs smoothly most of the time. We have tested PUBG Mobile and we have not perceived any type of problem, although we have been forced to reduce the graphic quality.

Wiko View3 comes updated to Android 9 Pie with minimal customization. The little it includes is classified in the Wiko functionalities section in the settings menu. Here we have access to security options such as facial recognition, customization of the notch, one-hand mode, gestures or a game mode to accelerate the performance of the smartphone in video games.

Screen and sound: ‘View’ with 6.26 inches

The name of the model already affects the importance of obtaining a screen that is a window to reality. The smartphone mounts an IPS LCD panel with a diagonal of 6.26 inches and an HD resolution (1,520 x 720 pixels). A resolution that can be forgiven given the price or opt for an FHD + screen on the Wiko View3 Pro . With these dimensions, the pixel density is 269 dpi. Delving into its specifications we have a 19: 9 screen ratio. Another aspect to mention is that it has slight black margins on the sides, so it does not completely reduce the dimensions of the front.

6.26-inch screen with IPS panel

But how does the screen behave? Broadly speaking, the IPS panel offers good colors and wide viewing angles for watching videos in company. The brightness level is within the expected for a smartphone of this range, sufficient for outdoors but raising the brightness. We liked the ability to adjust the color temperature to provide a slightly cooler shade.

Wiko View3

PUBG with low quality

The multimedia section is completed with sound. In the case of the Wiko View3 we did not expect much and it has been. The volume level is rather low and forces you to have it at 60% to listen to music. In relation to the sound quality it approves but without standing out, the Pro version improves in this regard. And as we’ve mentioned, it includes a headphone jack and FM radio tuner. In addition, the box includes a simple headset with hands-free function, nice detail.

Cameras: triple camera with AI

The main claim of the Wiko View3 is in its photographic section enhanced by the optimization of the AI. On the front it incorporates an 8 MP sensor with HDR capture. On the other hand, its triple rear camera is composed of the following sensors:

  • 12 MP Sony IMX486 main sensor with f / 2.0 aperture (1 / 2.9 ″, 1.25µm, PDAF focus, 27mm focal length)
  • 2 MP depth sensor
  • 13 MP wide-angle sensor (120º angle, 16mm focal length)

Broadly speaking, the photographs taken with these sensors offer a good representation of colors, sharpness and with an HDR that optimizes the dynamic range of the photograph. However, between the two angles we notice many differences, so much so that they seem to be photos of different phones. Obviously we are not going to get very exquisite given the low price of the Wiko View3. Then we leave you with extensive galleries so that you can check our assessments yourself.

The camera app is simple but complete. It has a multitude of buttons to access the different menus and functions of the photographic section. This is where the HDR capture with AI and the angle selector come into play . Wiko gives the necessary tools to exploit its possibilities with an uneven result, depending especially on the lighting conditions. The portrait mode is given by the ToF sensor that takes care of the depth, with a bokeh effect that has some room for improvement.

At nightfall we have two options, pull the normal capture or activate the night mode. With both modes, the presence of noise is palpable reducing the sharpness in the images, which does not happen during the day. Selfies at night also suffer. With regard to video recording, we did not exceed Full HD resolution at 30 fps on both sensors. The quality of the videos is quite correct but there is no stabilization and the focus sometimes fails.

Battery: lasts as long as its charge: Wiko View3, its camera and low price are its best assets

As stated in the technical sheet of the Wiko View3, it has a 4,000 mAh battery. A unit with a capacity according to the technical specifications of the smartphone. Thus, an autonomy of up to 6 hours of screen is achieved , which can always be stretched with any of the system settings. Obviously, this figure will depend on the type of applications or the level of brightness of the panel. Unfortunately, it can take almost 3 hours to recharge as you do not have a current fast charging system. It uses a standard 5V / 2A charger.
