Huawei Mate 30 Pro: the company’s most controversial becomes its best move
The new Huawei Mate family has just been presented . A month earlier than we all expected and again with the city of Munich as a backdrop, a scenario that already saw the birth of the Mate 9 and Mate 10, the Chinese company has brought out the great ace it had up its sleeve. Many surprises, much innovation and once again the confirmation that we are dealing with a firm that knows how to play its cards very well.
We have traveled to the German city to cover this presentation of the new Huawei Mate 30 series live . In this article we are going to tell you in detail what you can expect from the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, its poker of aces.
Finally a really different design
In recent times, it was quite difficult to find a device that was really exciting in terms of design. The new Huawei Mate 30 Pro has played with geometry, symmetry and the perfect fusion of the different elements of its design to put in our hands a smartphone that, being able to like it more or less (about tastes there is nothing written, you know) , finally gives us that “something” different that we needed.
Mate has always been characterized as a family with a fairly iconic design and in this generation they repeat themselves, this time using circular shapes as the protagonists . On this occasion, its greatest beauty is behind it, with that glass back where the camera configuration encapsulated in a circle with a small relief on the outside is given all the prominence. In the upper left corner the flash has been placed, while in the lower left corner, also in a vertical position, the company logo appears discreetly, losing prominence in favor of the cameras.
The upper and lower edges rescue the design of the Huawei P30 Pro , totally flat and that, although they promise us that its function is that the smartphone can stay upright, personally I have never succeeded.
The front panel leaves us in our first impressions some lights and shadows. If you like mobiles with a large screen, the 6.8-inch diagonal will delight you . In addition, its curvature taken to the extreme favors that the sensation of immersion is even greater. In the absence of testing it to see if it really is a comfortable panel to use on a day-to-day basis, on paper it seems like a very wise decision. The shadows on this occasion are taken, again, by the notch . Huawei loses the teardrop format, it does not even dare to incorporate the hole in the screen How much we would have liked to see in the new Mate 30 Pro, leaving a slightly obsolete aesthetic for the heights of the game we are in. A notch that already arrives in discount time, but to which we give a vote of confidence for the number of sensors included that promise to improve the user experience. As always, we will talk in depth about them in our next review after a few weeks of use.
But the highlight of its design, both aesthetically and in terms of functionality, is that the Huawei Mate 30 Pro does not have physical volume buttons . This not only makes the body of the terminal more ergonomic, but also offers a small change in terms of user experience thanks to the introduction of this touch panel, which, for now, is not common in this type of terminal.
Features of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro
In this first contact with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro in its presentation, we have been able to know all its characteristics in full.
The new Huawei flagship has a 6.53-inch AMOLED screen with FHD + resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 as we have already mentioned, totally curved on both sides of it.
Inside, the newly presented Kirin 990 is placed at the hands of the ship , an octa core processor built with a 7 nm lithography (the smallest currently on the market) and divided into three clusters ( 2 x Cortex-A76 at 2.86 GHz, 2 x Cortex-A76 at 2.36 GHz and 4 x Cortex-A55 at 1.95 GHz clock frequency ). The combination of these different speeds means that this Huawei SoC can keep up with the most demanding tasks, but also offers energy efficiency when necessary.
The version of the Kirin 990 that it incorporates is 5G , so the entire Mate 30 Pro series will arrive prepared for this new connectivity standard. As an advantage over the competition, this module is compatible with both NSA and SA networks. What does this mean? The 5G is being deployed in two stages, to favor the speed of implementation and the reduction of costs. Kirin 990 is compatible with both protocols, so we will have no problem enjoying the benefits of 5G from today (if we have a compatible rate with our operator and this connection has already arrived in our geographical area).
This processor is accompanied by a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU to enhance the graphics of the device, in addition to 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
The graphic section inherits a large part of the functions that we have already been able to enjoy in the Huawei P30 Pro camera and in this case, at the hardware level, we find a configuration of four lenses, dominated at the back by a 40 sensor. MP + 40 MP + 8 MP + ToF , while in the front it incorporates for the first time a camera with 32 MP + wide angle + ToF , with which it hopes to improve the selfie section, its great pending issue to date.
As for security, it will be in charge of the Huawei Face ID 2.90 facial recognition and the on-screen fingerprint sensor. For its part, the battery, which is usually the pillar that we end up liking the most about Huawei as users, has a capacity of 4,500 mAh and a fast charge of 40W , which can fully charge our mobile in about an hour. Wireless charging will have 27W.
Finally, it incorporates AOSP with the EMUI 10 customization layer . For now, as the Huawei team has told us, the Google Play Store will not come pre-installed, but the user will have access to more than 11,000 apps in the Gallery App, in addition to all the possibilities of the “online world”. In a future article we will develop this information better.
As for EMUI 10, we have already been able to test it on a Huawei P30 Pro and there is a clear evolution between EMUI 9 and EMUI 10, especially in the interface wash that it has experienced and in small details that we liked a lot, such as the redesign of search or notifications.
Now that we know completely and without surprises the new Huawei high-end for 2019, we hope to try it as soon as possible to offer you, as always, our experience after a few weeks of use. Stay tuned!
