Where to find the ideal sewing teacher to learn to sew?

It is not only about choosing a suitable sewing machine, but also about choosing a teacher who will give you good advice and who will guide you in the realization of your sewing project. For this reason, finding a sewing master is not something you should take lightly.

The first thing you will have to do is make a balance between your needs and your goals :

• If you prefer to take classes in traditional sewing, embroidery, knitting …
• If you prefer haute couture or interior design (in which you will learn how to assemble a cover for a cushion)
• If you are looking to perfect your techniques such as cross stitch or crochet.

Therefore, you only have to go to one of the places where you can learn to sew to find the perfect teacher :

• Sewing schools or  maisons ;
• ateliers or private workshops;
• cultural associations;
• private and freelance sewing teachers.

However, what makes a suitable sewing teacher? A state recognized diploma? Not necessarily. Finding the perfect sewing master means meeting a number of criteria:

• A more or less tight budget;
• a more or less long delay;
• a more or less similar geographical situation;
• a more or less flexible schedule;
• consistency between your sewing project and the teacher’s professional experience.

If several of these criteria come together, you can start from a good point : have the best sewing teacher in your hands.
