Héctor is a very versatile 28-year-old computer scientist who began by giving private lessons to children. The subjects they teach are especially Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science, although he also dares with languages, such as Italian, since he spent a year in the country of pasta.

I decided to become a computer scientist because it is a career in which you have to study a lot of mathematics and I loved it since I was little, and also because I loved tinkering with computers, so I found the perfect path in computer science.
Has there been a person who especially influenced you, guided you or helped you decide what to do in the future?
I had a private math teacher when I was little who transmitted to me her desire to teach and her love for numbers. Perhaps it was she who had the most influence.

Students mostly seek to pass college, institute or university exams, and what they want is to see results over time.

The truth is that no, I have no hero in terms of the subjects I teach.
What do you like the most about teaching?
What I like the most is to see myself reflected in the face of that person who at first has no or very little knowledge of the subject and to see after several classes everything you have contributed to that person’s knowledge. It is a feeling of personal fulfillment, you see that what you do affects the objectives of that person.

What is the most recurring profile of students who seek help from you?

Mainly, students who need help with mathematics and with certain computer topics, for example, help with specific programs, knowing how to handle the Internet …

What do you think the virtue of a student should be to learn?

Without a doubt, the interest. If he is not interested, it is impossible for him to learn and progress. You also have to be willing, you have to make an effort and show commitment. No matter how much you have the help of a private teacher and no matter how well he explains, without interest and desire, it is useless.
What do you think are the main obstacles that a person can encounter when learning mathematics, computer science or in the other subjects you teach?
Above all, the ignorance of the matter. You have to try to make that person see that despite the initial ignorance, they will be able to overcome barriers, obstacles, and that they will be able to acquire more knowledge, and may even become an expert in this field. With determination everything is possible.
What makes you a Superprof? What do you think your students value most about you and your classes?
I think the desire I have to teach and the motivation that I try to convey to them. I try to get involved as much as possible in the learning of my students.

Classes are a moment of personal exchange

Could you tell us a curious anecdote or story that has marked you during the years you have been teaching?
I don’t have any very relevant story to tell. I would highlight the experience with the children. Sometimes children think that they are not capable of progress in the field and when they do, they feel a personal fulfillment that they compare with the feeling of a victory, like when they win a football game.
Do you think that nowadays, in your case in Madrid, a Superprof can only live on the financial resources it receives from private classes?
I think so, you have to know how to organize yourself well. You have to have a good strategy and visibility and you have to be a bit savvy to be able to live solely from it, but I think it is feasible.
