Oppo shows its Waterfall screen with exaggeratedly curved edges

The renowned Chinese manufacturer Oppo, responsible for innovative terminals such as the Find X, today presents its latest innovation in the field of full-screen smartphones. A month ago the same company showed us its under-screen camera technology, which could be the holy grail of this class of mobiles, but in this new opportunity it presents us with a different approach. Oppo calls it a Waterfall screen , or because of its Spanish translation, a waterfall screen, which consists of a panel with curved edges with an 88 degree inclination and without side buttons.

The vice president of Oppo, Brian Shen , shared the news through Twitter and his personal Weibo account, revealing a glimpse of what the future holds. The company claims that the Waterfall design achieves a body-to-screen ratio of almost 100%, leaving very thin edges at the top and bottom.

Although the visual effect produced by the Waterfall screen is impressive, it should be noted that Samsung has already tried a similar style on the Galaxy S6 Edge , as well as other manufacturers who decided to pursue this trend that never quite took off, probably due to the impractical resulting in actual use.

Bias aside, the screen looks narrower than the front panel of the Oppo Find X , but in the absence of knowing the exact dimensions of the device and images of its back, we are not entirely sure. Another point to be discussed is that there is no indication of a front camera, either drop down or under the screen, so we will have to wait for more information before giving us an opinion on it.

Lastly, Oppo promises that its Waterfall display will be available starting next year , but we still have no idea which phone will mount it first. Be that as it may, it is another interesting innovation in the mobile industry, which adds to the retractable mechanisms and under-screen camera technology.
