The history of the sacred mountain of Japan goes back a long time and it has always been regarded as an object of worship in the Shinto religion!
Before you go to discover Mount Fuji, it is interesting to delve into the history of this sacred volcano in Japan  to better understand its importance in Japanese culture and its place in Japanese topography. Its history dates back to about  600,000 years  ago and since then this volcano has experienced many events.
The history of the eruptions of Mount Fuji is very rich. In fact, this volcano is still considered active and today, although highly unlikely, it can still erupt. Japan’s highest point has had many eruptions in its history:
The 4 eruptions of the Jōmon period (Sengoku, Osawa, Omuro, Sunazawa).
The Gotenba lava stream.
The Jogan eruption in 864.
Twelve eruptions during the Heian period (800-1083);
The great Hoei eruption in 1707.
Many earthquakes have also been recorded  , such as the 2011 earthquake on the southern slope of Mount Fuji. Despite these repeated natural disasters, the volcano has always been a cult object  unmatched in the Japanese archipelago. Legend even says that some gods, called kami in Japan , reside there .
Mount Fuji is currently classified as  a World Heritage Site by UNESCO  because of its great importance in the Shinto religion and Japanese cultural heritage. Many artists like Hokusai have used it as a subject for their engravings and the mountain continues to fascinate in movies or video games. The history of Mount Fuji
